Tracy Island in the Pacific Ocean is the home base of International Rescue, a 21st century organisation specialised in seemingly impossible rescue missions. Their five rescue craft are called the Thunderbirds.

Virgil Tracy (27) is the pilot of Thunderbird 2, tranporting heavy rescue equipment in a number of interchangeable 'pods'. | ||
Alan Tracy (19) is the astronaut of the space rocket Thunderbird 3. Every other month, he relieves John in the space station Thunderbird 5. | ||
Gordon Tracy (22) is at the controls of the submarine Thunderbird 4, and the co-pilot of Thunderbird 2. | ||
John Tracy (25) mans the space station Thunderbird 5, monitoring all communication frequencies for emergency calls. |
